MBA Curriculum at Sogang University

Program Structure
The CNU MBA curriculum is based on the track system, which is designed to fit the student’s desired career path. It consists of foundations, core courses, electives. Foundations, the basic courses of MBA, are for students with undergraduate major in non-business areas while core courses, which include finance, accounting, human resources and organization, marketing and others deal with the essential business management functions that should be acquired by all professional corporate executives. Students may also choose various electives according to the track they have selected to suit their experience, aptitude, and desired career. CNU MBA’s curriculum provides students the opportunity to acquire the grounding and the in-depth professional knowledge required to become management professionals.

The curriculum is designed to help students effectively acquire general body of knowledge for MBA degree, which is recommended by the AACSB International. Adopting course embedded approach, each course encourages students’ active participation, group discussion and paper presentation in the class, through which students can develop team work, communication skill, leadership and hands-on-experience in complex problem solving situation. This approach enables students to make immediate, substantive contribution to the organization they belong.
Requirements for Graduation: Successful completion of over 45 credit hours
Foundation Courses: Principles of Accounting, Business Statistics
Core Courses: 30 ~ 34 credits
Elective Courses: 2 ~8 credits
track Cores: Up to 10 credits

Course Duration:
Varies by program, but in the case of the PAC MBA, the course will be completed in 4 semesters (1 year and 6 months), which may be extended depending on whether the individual decides to undertake internships or study abroad programs. As for the PAC EMBA, it normally takes six semesters (2 years) but it may be shortened one or two semesters depending on the individual’s plan.
Capstone Project:
As the final coursework that completes the MBA study, Capstone project gives students an opportunity to apply knowledge gained during the study into a real business environment. Students work alongside business professionals in a variety of business settings to create an “inside” experience.
Internship:
Internships are an option for the PAC EMBA and CEMBA and mandatory for PAC MBA.
Studying Abroad:
Studying abroad is an option for all programs.

Admission Requirement at Sogang University

The minimum admission requirements are described below.
A bachelor’s degree
International applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an approved (accredited) institution or its equivalent stipulated by regulations set by Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Korean Government. Applicants currently working for bachelor’s degree should complete their degree before the end of August 2008. Admission will be cancelled if admitted students fail to complete their degree in time.
Minimum of Two Years of Work Experience for PAC Evening MBA
The Evening MBA program is for the applicants with work experience. However, exceptional candidates with less than two years of work experience may be considered for admission. Work experience is not required for applicants to PAC MBA.
English Competency
International applicant whose native language is other than English or whose undergraduate instruction was not in English must provide the proof of their English proficiency. The proof includes test results from official English tests such as TOEFL and IELTS. The tests should be taken within two years of the term for which you are applying. International applicants with a undergraduate degree from US, UK, Canada, Australia, or other English speaking countries may request a waiver of this requirement. Statement of adequate financial resources
International students are required to provide a statement that shows applicants have adequate financial resources for the expected duration of the program. This is one of the requirements for visa issuance by the Korean Immigration Office.
Foundation courses
Those who have not taken Principle of Accounting and Business Statistics in their undergraduate study are required to take them as foundations not for credits before the program starts. International students need to arrive at the campus earlier as foundation courses starts in mid July. Applicants will be notified with admission if they are required to take foundation courses.
Computer Literacy
All MBA students are expected to possess sufficient knowledge of spreadsheet and presentation software. Mastering computer skills such as document layout, graphic insertion, spreadsheet functions, and on-line communications are left for students.
