Admission Policies
Admission Policy for Full-time Master’s Program
Students seeking admission to the Master’s Program can take one of the following two admission tracks:

Application track: Students whose undergraduate average grades rank at the top 25 percent of their classes are qualified to take this track. The admission process consists of two stages. In the first stage, applicants seeking admissions to program need to prepare and send to the department their application packages (including study plan, autobiography, undergraduate course grades, and reference letters). Each application will be reviewed by the admission committee of the institute. The first-stage performance of an applicant is the weighted sum of the applicant’s qualification shown in his/her application package:

1. Qualification as shown in application package: 35%
Accordingly, top applicants with the highest performance in the first stage are selected into the second stage of the admission process. Each applicant will need to take a written examination on essay writing and then be interviewed by the admission committee. The performance in the stage is given a weight of 65%. Specific weights are:
2. Grade of written entrance examination (Master Thesis writing): 30%
3. Interview: 35%

Consequently, the overall performance of an applicant is the weighted sum of the three different evaluation criteria, and the top candidates will be admitted into the full-time Master’s Program in the Institute of Communications Management.

Entrance examination track: Students who take this track must take the graduate-study entrance examination organized by the university. Based on students’ background, students can take one of the following two subtracks in the entrance examination:

a) Communication subtrack: Three subject areas are included in the entrance examination for this subtrack: mass communication theory, contemporary communication problems, and professional language (English and Chinese).
b) Management subtrack: Three subject areas are included in the entrance examination: economics, management, and professional language (English and Chinese).

Admission Policy for Part-time Master’s Program
The admission process for part-time Master’s Program in Communications Management consists of two stages. In the first stage, applicants (required a minimum of 3-year work experience) seeking admissions to program need to prepare and send to the department their application packages (including study plan, undergraduate course grades, autobiography, and reference letters). Each application will be reviewed by the admission committee of the institute. In addition, each applicant needs to take a written examination on the subject of Communications Management organized by the university. The first-stage performance of an applicant is the weighted sum of the applicant’s qualification shown in his application package and his performance on the written examination. Specific weights are:

1. Qualification as shown in application package: 30%
2. Grade of written entrance examination: 40%

To earn a full-time master’s degree in the Institute of Communications Management, students must complete a minimum of 36 credits, including 7 credits of required courses. Since full-time master students come from various discipline areas in their undergraduate studies, core and common knowledge courses are designed to make sure that each student has necessary background in their graduate study. Some (or all) of the background requirements can be waived (but students need to take other elective courses) if students have taken equivalent courses in their undergraduate (or other graduate) studies. Based on each student’s background, a student may be required to take up to 27 credits (9 courses) of core and common knowledge courses. The background knowledge courses can be counted towards the 36-credit requirement for degree completion. In addition, each student must also complete a master thesis that shows his intellectual contributions. Finally, a student must attain TOEFL 550 or above (or equivalent score attained in other English tests approved by the University) .

Admission Policies
Admission Policy for Full-time Master Program
Students seeking admissions to the master program can take one of the following two admission tracks:

1. Application track: An applicant needs to prepare and send to the department an application package
(including study plan, undergraduate course grades, two reference letters, and autobiography). Students also take an examination including one subject: Management. Based on the qualifications demonstrated in their application packages (40%) and examination grade (60%), top candidates will be interviewed in English bythe graduate admission committee of the department.

2. Entrance examination track: Students who take this track must take the graduate-study entrance
examination organized by the university. The examination subject is listed below:
Group A(Statistics) Management, Statistics
Group B(Sociology) Management, Sociology
Group C(English) Management, English
Group D(Part-time) Management, Case analysis in Human Resource Management
Based on the exam grades, top students will be interviewed in English by the graduate admission committee of the department. Group D does not need to interview.

Admission Policy for Part-time Master Program
The admission process for part-time master program in Human Resource Management consists of two stages. In thefirst stage, applicants (required a minimum of 3-year work experience) must send an application package (including 2 reference letters, working experience proof, and proof of other outstanding experience.) to the department for evaluation (given a weight of 30%) and take the entrance examination organized by the university (given a weight of 40%). Top 60 applicants with the highest performance in the first stage are selected into the second stage of the admission process. In second stage, each applicant will be interviewed by the admission committee of the department.

The performance in the stage is given a weight of 30%. Consequently, the overall performance of an applicant is the weighted sum of the three different evaluation criteria, and the top candidates will be admitted into the part-time master program in Human Resources Management.

Admission Policy for Doctoral Programs
Each applicant needs to prepare and send to the department an application package (including research plan,undergraduate and graduate course grades, three reference letters, proof of language ability and master thesis). In addition, each applicant is required to take the doctoral entrance written examination given by the doctoral admission committee of the department and also will be interviewed. Accordingly, the evaluation involves three criteria whose weights are listed as follows:
1. Past academic performance (30%)
2. Doctoral entrance written examination (40%): Subject is Management and Research Methodology.
3. Interview performance (30%).
