The objective of the course is to allow participants to be informed users of accounting information that is strategic and supports and enhances the direction of the firm. Management Accounting and Control emphasizes the use of accounting data from the perspective of managerial decision making. The manager’s use of accounting output will be focused upon; financial accounting (understanding the role of external financial reporting as a scorecard of managerial performance), cost accounting (what a product or service costs, and how that information can be used for effective decision making), strategic cost management (the use of accounting information for value chain analysis, assessment of opportunities) and management control (evaluation of strategy and planning).

Managerial Accounting & Control
Whether examining financial or managerial performance, it is important to use solid metrics for evaluation. The Managerial Accounting and Control course gives Ivey students tools for use in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting and Management Control Systems. Case topics range from capital budgeting and strategic cost management to corporate control and the balanced scorecard. MAC enables Ivey students to process all types of accounting data, financial and non-financial, and use it to critically evaluate all options.
Managerial Accounting & Control
Managerial Accounting & Control will NOT be accepting applications for 2009.
Management Accounting and Control (MAC) provides a broad but rigorous exposure to the core issues of financial and management accounting theory. In addition, students explore in depth research areas such as financial reporting and disclosure, taxation, total quality management and cross-cultural control systems. The primary focus is on users of financial information and empirical problems of relevance to the practice of accounting and management. As a result, field research methods are often an important part of the dissertation research process.
Students take the full spectrum of PhD
The course examines in detail the relationship between strategic plans and internal operations of the firm. It will focus on firms’ internal accounting information systems and their use in corporate decision-making, planning and control, and performance evaluation.

This course will develop your ability to the use of analytical methods to structure complex decisions, analyze and compare alternatives, and arrive at a plan of action. This course will help you develop a fuller assessment of your own personal leadership as well as a plan for how you can leverage your strengths and develop your weaknesses to more effectively lead people in groups and teams. The course covers many aspects of personal leadership, including career-path development, the role of mentors, effective coaching and direction, developing commitment in others, and the best use of teams in business settings.
