Elective courses are designed to deliver state of the art thinking in a focused set of areas. Students take a minimum of nine elective courses, but may choose to take up to 11. Over the 13-week period (which also includes time for evaluations) you will generally be participating in both morning and afternoon courses.

Designed as a state-of-the-art curriculum, the Ivey one-year MBA program maximizes your ROI and is the foundation of an intense, rewarding, life-changing student experience. Your Ivey learning experience is a coherent program and the curriculum architecture (courses and modules; length, timing and sequencing of courses; elective programming and overall curriculum content) was designed with the students in mind. Although that sounds obvious, many other programs are designed by the faculty, for the faculty.

Microeconomics for Managers
This is an introduction to the economic way of thinking. The content covers basic foundations of supply and demand, price determination, and the economics of industry structure. Cases, exercises and lectures emphasize the use of microeconomic principles for understanding business situations and making effective management decisions.
To be considered for admission to the Ivey MBA program, an applicant must have successfully completed the following:
A personal profile in Inside Track;
A degree program at an accredited university or its equivalent (some exceptions may be considered);
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) exam (test scores more than 5 years old are not valid);
English language proficiency test: English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Michigan English Language Assessment (MELAB) is required for candidates who attended a non-English-speaking undergraduate university or whose native language is not English (more information);

All students must make a decision on their majors before semester 3 begins.
They can also select an additional major, depending on their needs.
More than 4 courses out of elective major courses should be completed for an additional major.

The courses that were taken at other special graduate schools may be recognized as elective major classes within the limit of 6 credits (3 courses)
Strategic Analysis & Action
This course is about how an enterprise achieves and sustains a high level of success, and the role of the general manager in this process. Instead of focusing on a particular functional area, this course provides you with a process for problem-solving and decision-making that requires you to build on, integrate and apply the knowledge gained from those disciplines in order to develop an overall general management perspective.
Management Behaviour
The management behaviour course is designed to develop general managers who can understand and deal effectively with human issues in organizations. Management Behaviour I focuses on managing teams and people. Management Behaviour II, which is taught in the second year of the HBA program, emphasizes the design of organizations and the management of organizational change.
Executive Client Field Project – Business 564
This is a group project, conducted in self-selected teams for the duration of the program. A senior executive client must be obtained in either a profit-oriented or non-profit organization of appropriate size and complexity. There are deliverables at the end of each term and the international field trip to China is part of this project.
Operations
Providing the service or delivering the goods is the key transaction that every organization must execute flawlessly. The Operations course helps you develop the tools needed to do so by teaching you the necessary fundamentals, by focusing on the management point-of-view and by removing the awkwardness people feel when dealing with operations and its associated technologies. The cases in this course discuss a wide range of companies and deal with topics like capability enhancement; timing and coordination; quality and learning; and technology and strategy.
Competing with Analytics – Business 551
This course will develop your ability to the use of analytical methods to structure complex decisions, analyze and compare alternatives, and arrive at a plan of action. Topics such as coping with the uncertain future, the analysis of complex data, and solving simultaneous decision problems will be covered in the context of a variety of real management problems including bidding, procurement, supply chain, and pricing. The focus of the course is on how the appropriate use of analytics can create a competitive advantage for the firm.
Stakeholder Communication – Business 552
This course will develop your ability to communicate with the wide variety of stakeholders important to your businesses. We will improve your presentation skills, and explore how better to manage written information. We will strengthen your leadership capabilities by building your interpersonal communication skills, including your ability to handle the difficult conversations that occur when talking with angry stakeholders. And we will hone your understanding of the corporate communication process to make you more aware of the centrality of communication to a corporation’s success.
Your first year in the Ivey HBA Program is typically your third year of university. You work with the same classmates, in the same classroom with a dedicated faculty team. The nine member faculty team works closely to develop an integrated and flexible timetable that weaves the content together into a complete program experience. You cover the essentials of what every good manager needs to know and to be able to do. Career Management is also built into the curriculum to help you define your career goals and develop a job search strategy to get you there.
Winning Through Marketing Management – Business 553
Winning in markets is at the core of business success. Winning means attracting, growing and retaining customers, beating competition, and making money. This is done in a context of dynamic changes related to economic and other dimensions of the situation. This course puts you in the marketing manager’s chair. It exposes you to the decisions such as positioning, and creating customer value. It exposes you to the concepts and tools used to make these decisions such as market segmentation, competitive analysis, and the lifetime value of a customer.

We actively recruit to attract the highest quality candidates. Regretfully, the number of applicants greatly exceeds the number of spaces in the MBA Program. As a result, we strongly encourage you to submit your application early.
Ivey has two intakes per year; spring (May) and fall (September.) The intake dates and application deadlines for each intake are listed in the tables below. Post-MBA recruitment opportunities for the two classes are similar, with the exception of major investment banks and management consulting firms.
