1. Introduction The establishment of the Institute of Public Affairs Management (PAM) was based upon the successful experience of advanced democratic countries. Following the governmental changes in Kaohsiung and other parts of Taiwan in the last two decades, new kinds of developmental issues have emerged. In response to this, the first Institute of Public Affairs Management in Taiwan was established in 1992 at National Sun Yat-sen University. The Institute has combined the planning of public policies with emphasis on urban and environmental affairs, united policy with management arena, and strengthened the management of non-profit organizations. Moreover, it has applied the development experience of business administration and public administration to various public affairs issues, such as urban and regional development, city marketing, community renaissance, urban renewal, and civic society. In 1998, a doctoral program was also established at the Institute.

D4010013 Advanced Strategic Management Theory (3 crs): Strategic management theory is one of major aspect on business administration. For that, the doctoral students of business administration department shall learn more on “Strategic management theory”. There are two major parts of this course which are lecture and discussion. To make sure the well preparedness of all students, I’ll select two students to do short presentation of each topic and give the lecture in following section. I’ll give them few questions to prompt class discussion in order to deepen the conceptual construction of students. Through this class, I will convey the most important thoughts regarding the ten schools of “Strategic management theory” from textbook and selective academic papers.

Starting in fall 2007, the College of Management will launch a global Master of Business Administration (hereinafter referred to as GMBA) program in the Department of Business Management. The GMBA program will be a program fully lectured in English and aiming at international students.

The GMBA program is dedicated to provide high-quality international education environment to prospective students. It has the following specific goals:
To teach students theory and methodology of contemporary management to prepare them for management responsibility in a global business environment.
To provide students with new perspectives on management concepts in the Greater China markets and abilities to face the challenges and take opportunities in the changing dynamic business environment.
To enhance the problem solving and decision-making capabilities of students and increase the advantages in their future career.

The following applies to the students admitted in Fall semester 2008 and Onward:

Who is eligible to apply?
First-year LOCAL Master students from the five departments of NTU College of Management: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, International Business, and Information Management, are eligible to apply for the Global MBA Non-Degree Certificate Program.
This is a highly competitive Non-Degree Certificate Program and candidates will be selected by the Global MBA committee.

GMBA Certificate Program Credit Requirement:
To receive the Global MBA certificate, ALL admitted students must complete a total of twenty-four (24) credits of English-taught courses offered by NTU College of Management, including the six (6) core courses: Financial Management, Information Management, Managerial Accounting, Managerial Economics, Marketing Management, and Organization Behavior offered by the Global MBA Program. All admitted students must also write their M.A. Thesis in English.

The following applies to the students admitted in the years of 2006 and 2007 ONLY:

Students from the Departments of Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, and International Business must complete at least ten (10)/ a total of thirty (30) credits of English-taught courses at NTU College of Management and write their M.A. thesis in English to receive the Global MBA Certificate. Students from the Department of Information Management must complete at least nine (9)/ a total of twenty-seven (27) credits of English-taught courses at NTU College of Management and write their M.A. thesis in English to receive the Global MBA Certificate.

Moreover, it is mandatory for students to include the following core courses in their studies, requirements vary from department to department.

There are seven (7) core courses for the Global MBA Certificate Program: Managerial Accounting, Marketing Management, Managerial Economics (Industrial Economics), Organization Behavior, Information Management, Financial Management, and Econometrics (Quantitative Analysis). (Strategic Management is only for R93 & R94 students only).

Students from Accounting, Finance, and Information Management Departments are required to complete five (5) of the seven (7) core courses, and students from Business Administration and International Business Departments are required to complete six (6) of the seven (7) core courses.
