Decision analysis presents methods for strategically making decisions in a systematic and quantitative manner. It aims at cultivating students of business majors with logical reasoning and analytical skills to structure and solve business decision problems. The objective of this course is thus to study the decision-analysis process and applicable quantitative techniques to assist decision makers in making better decisions. In particular, the course considers structuring objectives, developing alternatives, quantitative analysis under certainty with preferences, and quantitative analysis under uncertainty with risks.

M4010034 Managerial Economics (3 crs):
This course will demonstrate the linkages between microeconomic theory and financial management, introducing students to the practical aspects of management decisions and the theoretical literature of the subject. Students will be introduced to managerial economic decision making within a risk context.

Advanced Business Management Decision Models (3 crs):
This course studies relevant business decision models and application software. Through building mathematical decision models, this course aims to simplify complex real world decision models to a manageable level, at which top executives can use for their decision references. Theories to be introduced in this course include: Bayesian Analysis, Game Theory, Simulation, Markov Chain, Data Mining, Expert System, Fuzzy Theory, AHP Model, and DEA Model. Each student is required to read the assigned articles, participate in class discussions, and hand in a brief summary report after each class. For final report, each student is required to utilize at least one of the above methods, combined with appropriate data, for empirical study or simulation.

The overall objective of this course is to prepare students to learn sound knowledge and to do credible research in initial public offerings (IPOs), seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) markets and the market structure. The course focuses on the process of going public, the pricing decision of the issuance, the role of the underwriter, the price behavior in the aftermarket, and the market making behavior of the securities markets. It is strongly recommended that students talk to me once they have any question or suggestion.
