PHI 333 Philosophy And Film

This course examines the implications of cinematic representation for philosophy. How does the moving image and sound change traditional conceptions of representation? How is knowledge transmitted through the medium of film? How is film related to culture, politics, and social life? Can film be a new mode of philosophical expression? Film theory will be read alongside works by such cinematic greats as Bergman, Godard, Truffaut, Lee, and others. Staff/Three credits
