Introduction The Department of Finance provides the opportunity for students to acquire the skills necessary to make intelligent decisions as finance managers and as managers in rapidly changing business environment. Depending on students’ choice among a cross-disciplinary set of courses in finance, economics, accounting and others, students are able to develop specializations in corporate finance, investments, financial engineering, econometrics, real estate, and others. One of the leading finance departments in the nation, the Department of Finance offered the first finance program in Taiwan. Data warehousing and online analytical processing (OLAP) are essential elements of decision support. On the other hand, with the rapid growth in size and number of databases available to an organization, mining knowledge or patterns from data (referred to as data mining) becomes essential to support decision-making and predict future behavior. According to the functions they perform, data mining techniques can be classified into the following categories: classification, clustering, association rules, sequential patterns, time-series patterns, and link analysis. The purpose of this course is to discuss important issues and techniques of data warehousing and data mining. Specifically, the models, design process, and indexes for data warehouse will be discussed in this course. In addition, prevalent data mining techniques, including classification analysis, clustering analysis, association rule analysis, and sequential pattern analysis, will be discussed in this course. Preferred Qualification: Have taken “Database Systems” course before.
