This course is designed to give students a basic understanding for the management issues surrounding the development and use of information technology in organizations. In particular, with in-depth case studies, we will discuss how information technology can play a fundamental role of enabling significant changes of business processes, work practices, organizational designs, and performance in organizations. The course focuses on the following areas: 1) Information technology and the Internet, and 2) Information technology and the organization. Also, this course introduces the subject of computer networks and the use of computer networks in business applications. Students will investigate progressive database management and administration principles. Topics include design, implementation, and management techniques. Students will utilize data definition and manipulation languages on leading database platforms. Emerging trends in database technology are also scrutinized.
